The Rocking chair

It was in 1946 that two ladies went on holiday staying at a holiday village in Perranporth, Cornwall, they were allocated one of the oldest chalets on site.

Feeling tired after the days travelling they decided to retire early on the first evening. They locked and bolted the chalet door and retired to the bedroom. At around midnight they heard someone's footsteps outside and looked out of the window to see who it was but no one was there, they then went back to bed.

A little while later they were startled to hear the chalet door open and then close, they then heard the footsteps again, this time in the main room! They heard a creaking sound and the rustle of a newspaper also the sound of very quite laughter. One can imagine how frightened they were, more so considering that they had locked and bolted the door!

They grabbed a couple of items to defend themselves with and threw open the bedroom door to confront the intruder but theyRocking Chair found no one in the room. There was a rocking chair in the room, which was rocking back and forth with some force as though there was someone in the chair reading the paper quietly laughing at what was being read. As there was no place for an intruder to hide within the chalet and the chalet door was noticed still to be locked and bolted, they both retreated quickly into the bedroom, wedged the door and waited for the daylight to come.

The following morning the two ladies saw the manager of the holiday village and explained what they had experienced and demanded to be given another chalet. After listening to what was being related, he told them that he had a number of previous complaints from other people who had stayed in that particular chalet and who had experienced much the same thing.
