Readers Stories Night Terror I always remember a very scary experience in the old house we lived in as a child. At the time my father was away on a training course, leaving my mother our cat and me in the house. Every evening at the same time, the cat would run to the living room door and hiss and spit, fur standing on end. My mother would check but nothing was ever outside. I was only about 4 years old at the time, but would often wake in the night absolutely terrified, convinced there was someone standing at the foot of my bed staring at me. I would scream out for my mother who would rush in quite annoyed at me for disturbing her. Obviously she didn't want to tell me anything at the time, but years later told me what really happened. Every night for about two months at exactly 04.00am she would wake up to see the door handle of her room turn and the door open. She was terrified and didn't move. Then a dark figure would enter the room walk to the foot of her bed and stare at her for a while, then turn leave the room and close the door. I was asleep in the next room.
