Readers Stories The Cold Spot My Partner and I were lying in bed about 10:45pm watching T.V with only the bedside lamp on. Suspended from the middle of the bedroom ceiling is a large global paper lantern, which shades a light bulb. All windows, doors were shut, suddenly for no logical reason this light shade swung furiously from side to side almost hitting the ceiling. (To re-inact the movement of the shade I would have to strike it with some force.) My partner and I were quite frightened by this experience, however I was sure there must have been a logical explanation for what was happening. When the light shade stopped swinging I got out of bed and stood directly underneath the shade looking up at it. The area underneath where I was standing felt like I had entered a freezer zone. I jumped straight back into bed. My partner was scared but I begged him to stand underneath the shade, when he did he felt the cold too. The bedroom is centrally heated! To this day we cannot explain how this happened but it was a strange experience which has left us both intrigued. There have been other unusual 'happenings' experienced by myself & partner Steve within this house. A farmer built the house we live in the 70's; it was built for his parents who have since both passed away. We do wonder sometimes whether their spirit remains. The house does not feel unwelcoming but at times both my partner and I feel a presence, as if someone else is in the room with us. We often smell a strong scent of flowers within the living room, which lasts for about 30 seconds. The front door once opened and closed as if someone had just walked in, we heard it and the dog ran into the hallway barking to greet whoever came in but when we looked no-one was there. The dog came back into the living room and sat down (most odd). The bathroom has a pull switch for the light and this has been heard being pulled on & off during the night by Steve and myself. It has also been heard by a guest who looked after the property whilst we were away on holiday, our guest had not been previously advised by us of this strange occurrence. Footsteps running around on the bedroom floor above the living room have been heard by Steve and myself on two occasions (not central heating pipes banging, as there was no heating on) I know things do happen that can be logically explained but I do feel that someone from time to time is letting us know that they are here with us.
