Odd Experiences.

In 1956, we moved to a brand new council house in Bedhampton near Havant, which was built, we were told, on an old army camp. One night, in the back garden, a neighbour was standing outside leaning on the windowsill talking to us through the open window. Suddenly for no apparent reason, the cat screamed and froze at something it appeared to see although there was no one else in the vicinity.

Over a period of time there were a number of strange happenings. At the end of the short downstairs passageway, next to the cupboard under the stairs, there was always a prominent shadow looking like a person in a crinoline dress standing against the cupboard. It was in profile only and only visible as you approached it to go into the kitchen. On the wall near the ceiling of the kitchen a face like 'Coco' the clown with rising hair each side showed through the paint on the wall and the piece of wallpaper covering it fell down.

A typewriter appeared to type on its own one night although there was no paper in it, and no sign of ink on the roller. On another occasion my brother then aged about 5 "saw" a rabbit hop across the floor of the sitting room, and I heard something move in the fire grate of that room in the night as my bedroom was above. Our cat used to watch something on the ceiling; there were no spiders or flies visible.

In 1968 we moved to Southsea, into a maisonette which we later learned was built on an area which was totally bombed during the 2nd world war. During the time we lived at this place we experienced several unaccountable occurrences. On one occasion a sixpenny piece (old currency) moved by itself across the kitchen worktop. Also in the same room at times there was knocking on the inside door but no reason for this could be found. On another occasion the kitchen curtains were found on the floor and off the wire, which was still on the window frame. None of us had done this and no other person had entered the house. There was simply no explanation.

I now live in a cottage dating back to 1730 in Oxfordshire and have never seen or felt anything here!
