Readers Stories A Night Visitor There have been weird things happening in our home. Myself, my partner Debbie and our son Donan moved to our home in August of last year (2001). It is a very small cottage built on farmland. I suspect that it was once used as farm labourer's lodgings. About 37 years ago a murder was committed in the near vicinity which made national news. My partner Debbie is (was) a total non-believer in ghosts and the like and would constantly have a laugh at my expense as I am a total believer. We were in bed one night and as usual I was reading before going to sleep. I had just put the light out and was settling down to sleep when I felt her sit bolt upright and say my name in a very quiet and strained voice. I put the light on and asked her what was wrong. She told me that she had seen the figure of an old woman standing at the door of our bedroom holding an infant in her arms. The woman looked at her and smiled. My partner then shut her eyes and opened them again and the figure was gone. She said that the whole of the doorway was lit up where the figure was. I asked her if she had been dreaming and she said that she had not fallen asleep yet as she was sorting out the jobs that needed to be done around the house in her head. I asked her again if she was dreaming and she said that she wished she were as this would explain easily what she had seen, but she once again said she had not been dreaming. For the rest of the night she slept very close to myself and she is not so quick to take the mickey out of my beliefs now. Since then we have had a few things happen around the house such as banging on the walls and things of that nature but we seem to be getting used to it now. This is not my first encounter, although I have never seen a ghost. I have had on a couple of occasions, light bulbs fall out of their sockets for no apparent reason and other things which have been nailed to the wall fall off. I have even had chairs move on me. My mate says that I have a ghost, which follows me. I'm beginning to believe it.
