Readers Stories A Spooky Toy I was reading some of the ghost stories in your web site readers section and remembered a very strange experience that happened to me many years ago. As I as only 4 at the time I don't actually remember much of it, but my parents and family have all told me about it. This has become a very popular story among my friends and people usually believe me and think it was very strange indeed. When I was a toddler I used to own a Fisher Price Phone. It was wooden with a plastic handset and was one of my favorite toys. Anyway, one day someone actually called me on it and spoke to me. He said his name was Boy and he was 6. My mum remembers me chatting on this Fisher Price Phone for hours and was convinced that I was actually talking to someone. However, when I gave the phone to my mum because Boy said he wanted to talk to her, she couldn't hear anything. One day he said that he liked football. He said his favorite football player was George Best. Baring in mind that this was 1987 this was after he left football. Also, being only 4 I didn't know anything about football, or even what it was. I certainly didn't know who George Best was or anything about him. The story gets stranger. After a few months of me talking to Boy, one day he said he was on a large boat with cars underneath (a ferry). He said at that time he was eating fish fingers and chips with tomato ketchup with his family at a table on the boat. He then said that all the lights started going out and that the windows were all smashing. He said that water was coming into the boat and that his dad was trapped in the toilet and he couldn't get out. I knew that he was very scared and I as very worried about him. My parents wanted to go out shopping and I didn't want to leave him but I had to. I told my parents what he said and they thought I was making it up. That night, my parents were watching the news and there was a big story about a ferry sinking. The Zeebrugge Ferry Disaster. They were shocked and told me about this. It was a few weeks after the disaster that I received a further phone call from him (on the Fisher Price Phone) saying that he and his mum were coming to see me. I told my mum and she didn't think he could possibly know where we live. A few hours later I excitedly shouted "he's here, he's here!" My mum didn't want to see him, as she was scared that she wouldn't see anyone, but I would say he was there. Anyway I remember that his mum came in and went into the kitchen with my mum for a chat. However, my mum says that his mum wasn't there and that she was just waiting in the kitchen for me. But I remember that Boy's mum went into the kitchen. To this day I remember what Boy looked like. He was a few years older than I was, and slightly taller. He had a head of brown curly hair, a round face and red cheeks and was wearing blue dungarees. He said "thank you" to me, kissed me on the cheek and then left. He also said that he had to move away and couldn't talk to me again. After I told my mum and asked if she had a nice chat with his mum. But mum said that there wasn't anyone else there. I never heard from Boy again. I sometimes wonder who it was and how he could communicate with me over a toy phone. It could be connected with the Zeebrugge Ferry Disaster as he said he was on a ferry that was sinking and the Zeebrugge sunk at that day, and at the time the time I was talking to him. I have done some research into the disaster and have not come to any conclusions. Some people have given theories, such as he was communicating with me telepathically because he was lonely and needed someone to talk to. I don't know, all I know is it wasn't in my imagination, and that it is something that will remain a mystery. All I wish is that I could find out who it was and that if he survived and if so where he is now.
