Memories

I was on either a school trip or Girl Guide holiday, I'm sorry to say I could no longer remember which. We were standing in the main hall of a building, not a particularly grand or old building as I can recall. I remember being impatient, as were some of the other children and seeing an open door to the left of the hallway we decided to investigate. The doorway led to a single flight of stairs going straight up ahead, with a landing running back along above and to the right. At the top of the stairs were three rooms, one at each end of the landing and one in the middle.

I remember that it was a bright, sunny day and there was a feeling of peacefulness. None of the rooms were furnished, they were completely bare with bare floor boards. I remember a couple of the rooms not being quite level, that is the floor sloped slightly making you feel a bit seasick!

I was in the room just off the centre of the landing, and I remember looking out at the view; nothing much really, just grassy wasteland, but the sky was blue and the sun was warm and I remember feeling very day-dreamy. Suddenly I realised I was alone in the room and decided I would go and look for the others. I came out of the centre room and into the room at the far end from the stairs at the end of the landing. No one was there. As I went past the room I was just in I checked it again as I thought maybe my friends were hiding from me for a joke. No-one there either. I finally checked the room nearest the top of the stairs, at the other end of the landing. No-one there either. So, I descended the stairs to see where everyone had gone.

As I was about halfway down, I noticed some movement above and looked up to the landing. A man had come out of the room furthest from the top of the stairs; he didn't look at me but just walked straight across the landing. At the time, I wasn't scared at all. It seemed a bit hazy faded almost. But I remember exactly what he looked like and what he was wearing. He was average height, but well built and wearing a brown suit - the style reminded me of those you see in the old films when the men go hunting - there was no belt but that sort of style. But it was a darker brown, and had quite a 'loud' check pattern to it, made of mustard-coloured stripes. His hair was dark and he had quite a strong/full dark moustache.

I do remember that when I got back downstairs, I told the tour guide who by that stage had appeared, that I had seen a man up there. One of the adults with us went to check and there was no one up there. They looked at me like I was a complete fibber and I seem to remember not being in their very good books.

Well, that's it. Call me nuts, but it did happen. I suppose the fact I didn't feel terrified or anything makes people doubt the 'authenticity' but I know for sure what I saw.

Another strange experience was when I was about 17. I was going to a friends and (I don't know if this is significant) it was around dusk. I was driving down the road to her house and I was late - I was supposed to be there at 7.30pm and it was 7.45pm on the car's clock. As I got nearer her house, maybe a quarter-mile away, I experienced something really odd. It felt as if I had hit something in the road; as an animal lover I became immediately distraught and brought the car to a halt. There was no other traffic coming either way, and there was (thankfully) no animal in the road, nothing in my tyres. I even wondered if it could have been a plastic bag or something had just caught on a tyre, but there really was nothing, nor was there any rubbish, or anything anywhere in the vicinity. It was such a strong feeling, almost like something passing through me, but with quite a jolt.

When I arrived at my friend's house she said I looked pale, I didn't realise I was that affected but I told her what happened and she listened but we then carried on with our evening. I got home late, maybe 11.30pm and my parents were not home. I then worried that they had been in an accident or something, maybe that was what I had sensed somehow. Anyway, they eventually got home at 1.30am. An elderly friend of my mothers had been walking to a church meeting they were having. The meeting was at 8.00pm. The woman was met by a couple of others attending the same meeting. I don't know the details but essentially, without warning, the old woman stepped into the road to cross over and was hit by a car and did not survive. This was at 7.45pm.

I can't prove that my experience was anything to do with this but at the time I was certain the two were connected.
