Lady in White.

When I was just six years old I saw something that was to put me firmly on the path as a believer of the paranormal, it was in fact the first of many as it turned out and most of them in my childhood.

I was spending the night at my aunt's bungalow in Leicestershire. The small bedroom I was in held a double bed that I shared at the time with my two aunts. Sandwiched in the middle, I remember quite clearly how hot I was that night, the door stood open and the living room was visible from my position, where I could also see the door to the kitchen where the family dog 'prince' was kept.

I don't know what had woken me, I assume now that the need for the toilet must have been the reason but at around two in morning (later verified by my aunt) I had sat bolt upright in bed and felt very afraid. I remember all my senses being alerted to the fact that something was wrong, and all I could do was look into the dark living room ahead. At first I can remember very clearly the silence, there wasn't the slightest sound, and then prince the dog started to whine and then scratch urgently behind the kitchen door. I knew that thunderstorms always had this affect on him and began to think that this was what was happening, until very abruptly prince went deadly silent and I became aware of what seemed to be fog in the middle of the living room.

It got thicker in density and formed into a column, which then drifted over to the television where two statues of my grandmothers stood, one of Mary holding a young Jesus and the other of Joseph holding an older Jesus' hand. In between was a small cross in the middle of these. The column then took the form of a woman dressed in a long white dress. She held her hands in the praying position and seemed to being doing just that. The unusual thing about her was the short curly black hair, it seemed out of place to me, the figure after some time than gradually leant backwards, never showing anything below her knees, until her whole body had sunk into the floor still in prayer. It was not until I heard the dog settling down again, that I realised I had been holding my breath and I had wet the bed, which immediately woke my aunt.

Some people will say that I was only a child and had had a nightmare or that I had imagined the whole thing as my mother did at that time, but from that day to this I can honestly say that it did happen. And just to add to the story, I only just recently found out that my grandmother from my fathers side that I knew nothing about as I have not seen my dad since I was six, had suffered from leukaemia and had lost all her hair. Being quite prudish, she had been buried with a short curly black wig on. I have no pictures of my grandma and no living memories of her. My mother had always told me that my gran and granddad had died before I was born. It was only when I found their grave two months ago that I discovered they had died much later and it was then that my mother had finally told me about her illness and the wig.
