Readers Stories A Phantom Motorcyclist. On Saturday 7th August 2004 I was returning from a camping trip with my friend to Wookey Hole in Somerset. On our return journey we both experienced something quite bizarre. I think we were on the A371 between Wells and Shepton Mallet, but I can't be sure if this. As we approached a hill with many bends I spotted a motorcyclist heading towards us down the hill. Maybe I had spotted him through the hedge or something but anyway he was now out of sight. I advised my friend to slow down as the corner was sharp and that I had spotted a motorcyclist heading towards us at some speed. My friend also acknowledged that he too had seen the motorcyclist. We continued up the hill and many cars passed us but there was no sign of a motorbike or it's rider. There were also no junctions, turnings or side roads off which to leave the main road. Out motorcyclist had just disappeared. We both described what we had seen almost identically. Despite only catching a glimpse of the motorcyclist we both described what we saw as an old-fashioned motorbike (maybe red - I remember seeing red), possibly 1960's, the rider wearing a 'piss-pot' style helmet (old-fashioned 60s style). Our only conclusion to this experience is that the motorcyclist may have had a fatal accident on this sharp bend and now haunts the A371 but never makes it round the corner! It would be interesting to know if any one else has seen him. Neither of us have ever seen a ghost before, and not being skeptical I truly believe that what we saw was an apparition.
Keri.
