Glossary. ANOMALOUS PHENOMENA: Natural phenomena that cannot be explained in terms of existing scientific theories. APPARITION: Unexplained appearance of a person, animal or object. AUTOMATIC WRITING: The ability to transfer messages from spirits in the form of written messages through the consciousness of an individual. CLAIRVOYANCE: The power of seeing mentally things not perceived by ordinary sight. ENTITY: A thing that has real existence. EXTRA-SENSORY PERCEPTION: Obtaining information in some way other than the five normal senses. Also referred to as ESP. HAUNTING: A visitation in the form of a discarnate entity. HYPNOTIC REGRESSION: Use of hypnosis to recall information about the past. INCORRUPTIBILITY: Corpses that do not decay by natural process. LEVITATION: The ability to rise and float in the air. LEY LINES: A line joining points in the landscape following and ancient track. OUIJA BOARD: A board, on which the alphabet is printed in two arched rows across the middle of the board, below the letters is numbers one to nine followed by zero. On the top left hand side is printed 'Yes' on the right 'No' and at the bottom 'Good Bye'. The users finger is placed lightly touching an item called a planchette, which has a pointer that moves over the letters as it spells out an answer to a question. PHANTOM: A ghostly image. POLTERGEIST: Manifestation of an apparition or presence involving noises and physical movement of objects. POSSESSION: Control of a living being by a non-corporeal entity such as a spirit. PSYCHOKINESIS: Also known as telekinesis. Phenomena where movements of objects are possible without touch.
