Ghost Photography - A Beginners Guide
Where do ghosts appear ?
Ghosts can appear anywhere; there is no set
pattern. There are many misconceptions about ghosts or what we term
spirit energy. It is very important that those endeavoring to capture
this energy on film should gain some knowledge on the subject matter.
In most cases, unlike say photographing a UFO, which can be seen,
with spirit energy in most cases you see nothing in the viewfinder,
only on the film when developed.
Where's the best place to photograph a ghost?
Spirit energy, or ghosts, have no physical
boundaries. Logically, they can be anywhere. Historic buildings are
notorious for strange goings on; it would seem that spirits have a
tendency return to what is familiar to them. Ghosts sometimes remain
in the area in which they died, such as places of tragedy, old
historic battlefields, scenes of tragic accidents etc.
What equipment would I need?
A good quality 35mm camera with adjustable
settings and a good quality point and shoot camera, both with flash,
also a Polaroid instant camera can be useful. Kodak or Fuji 400 ASA
film and straps removed from all cameras. Ghosts on film are
typically perceived as fitting into one of three general categories
each has several variations. They are what are termed 'ghost orbs',
which are distinguished by round, pale areas that resemble globes of
light. 'Vortexes', which show a crescent-shaped pale area usually
white in colour. 'Mists' which are a fog like discoloration that
often passes in front of and behind other objects in the frame. To a
far lesser degree, 'Apparitions' which are full-bodied anomalies. We
do not use digital cameras on a stand-alone basis, as it is
impossible to authenticate the picture without a negative. As digital
cameras do not use film this vital element of proof will be missing.
Furthermore, however authentic a digital image is, the door is left
open for accusation that the photograph has been manipulated or
'doctored' by use of the computer.
How can I prove my photograph is genuine.?
An expert in photography should check out the
photograph for authenticity. In order for such a photo to be
analyzed, two things are needed, the negative and the print.
If a ghost cannot be seen then how do you photograph it?
It is believed that a ghost creates a cold spot
(unexplained temperature variances) in the air in which it occupies.
We use an Infrared Remote Laser Thermometer, which can pinpoint these
cold spots, and when detected we shoot our film. It is also believed
that ghosts are Electro-magnetic in origin. The energy a ghost gives
off will cause a disruption in the location's magnetic field, which
then becomes detectable using a measuring device. The instrument used
to detect this is called an Electro-Magnetic Field Detector. An
alternative way to detect magnetic field disruption is to use a
compass and watch for sudden fluctuation or any deviation off of
magnetic north. If any deviation is noticed then you can start taking
your pictures. An ordinary thermometer can also be used instead of an
IRL Thermometer.
